Remember, before GPS and its seemingly unlimited database of POIs? You had to use an over-sized map. Maybe a Rand McNally or a Road Master, and the mapmakers put any POIs they could fit on the maps by using little red squares labeled with tiny red letters, and the occasional arrow when the text wouldn't fit nearby.
